Why and how I tape my fingers for training.
.
I have developed Arthritis in both of my hands from fighting with guys bigger than me for the past 25+ years. Because the big guys were far stronger than me, they would forcibly rip my hands off their Gi.
.
Years of this repetitive event resulted in the tendons in my finger tips being stretched out, which causes instability in the joint, pain, and a loss of grip strength.
.
The Arthritis set in about 4yrs ago in a time span of a month or two. A student who was a top tier collegiate wrestler had told me about a conversation he had with an Orthopedic Hand Surgeon, which he explained what was going on inside of the joint.
.
Once I started taping my fingers, the pain went away and my full grip strength returned after about two months. Now, I only tape my fingers during training or extensive work with hand tools.
.
I discovered the taping configuration I use today during the build-out of my current Dojo. It has been a life saver.
.
We should all be training for longevity. As we get older, our body won't be able to do all of the things we could when we were younger. So, we have to train smarter.
.
If any of this info helps you, please let me know and share the video. If not, tell me what works for you. I've seen lots of taped fingers and videos people send me and they haven't been as effective. At least for me.
.
Be safe. Train smart. Listen to your body.
